The SLO Happy Homes team has been a proud sponsor of the Harvest Festival for several years, and getting to join in the fun is the best part. Each year, the Historic Village of Arroyo Grande comes alive with families, local businesses, music, classic cars, horses, fire trucks and, of course, the beloved parade, a tradition dating back to 1937.

Mother Nature cooperated this year: sunshine, a cool breeze and the kind of morning that makes you stop for a moment and feel grateful to live here.

We arrived just before 9:00 a.m. to line up. As entry #37, we were far toward the back of the parade, which gave us plenty of time to wander the staging area, check out the decorated vehicles, buggies, classic cars and horses, and visit with old friends. Honestly? Waiting for the parade to start is half the fun.

The Great Bling-Bling Ring Dilemma

We showed up armed with 600 bling-bling rings for the kids (and the adults who are still kids at heart). There was just one little problem: parade participants are no longer allowed to hand out items along the route. Something was distributed during last year's parade that hadn't been approved, so the rules changed for everyone.

So there we stood with 600 rings and nowhere for them to go! To every child we promised a ring to, we are so sorry. Rules are rules, and we didn't want to become the Harvest Festival outlaws of 2026. I'll admit, my Catholic conscience kicked into full gear, but we behaved ourselves and followed the rules.

This Is Why We Love Our Community

Even without handing out a single ring, we had a wonderful time. Smiling faces, waving families, excited kids and adorable fur babies lined the streets, and everywhere we looked people were laughing and enjoying a beautiful morning together.

In a world that moves faster every year, small-town traditions give us a reason to slow down, gather and simply be part of a community.

Thank you to everyone who waved, shouted hello, cheered us on or stopped to visit before the parade.

See you in 2027, Arroyo Grande!
